*9/11...A Day of Remembrance*
My best friend and I were each enjoying a nice cup of tea at her house and discussing our individual plans for the day, before going our separate ways. Our pleasant visit was interrupted by a frantic phone call from her mother, asking if my friend had seen what just happened.
She turned on the TV just in time for us to watch, horror-stricken, as that second plane exploded into the next tower. Like many Americans that day, we were numb with disbelief and confusion over what we were seeing. How could this have happened in America?
Those initial images will forever be imprinted in the minds and on the hearts of those who suffered loss that day, along with America as a nation. On this 8th annual commemoration of that day, I'm sure everyone can remember where he or she was, much the same as others recall the moment JFK was shot.
This day, 9/11, is one which will live on in infamy as a day of devastation and grief - yet also a day of unity in America, such as we - unfortunately- rarely see ... we seem to forget to uphold that spirit of unity until this day rolls around again on the calendar.
Instead, we should embrace and cherish our loved ones who are still with us and reflect on the memories of those who have passed on. We should also jealously guard the freedoms that we still have in this country and not allow any enemy from within or outside the borders to perpetuate any similar kind of plot to destroy the American spirit of unity and freedom.
